Hong Kong director Benny Chan of New Police Story fame dies at 58

Hong Kong director Benny Chan has died on Sunday (Aug 23) at the historic period of 58 years old.

Tributes take started pouring in for him online, with one from actor-director Stephen Fung who starred in Gen-Ten Cops. He wrote on Instagram that he was "shocked to hear" of Chan's passing.
Fung also called the late director "a potent force behind Hong Kong cinema".
Actress Jeana Ho, who acted in Chan's final directorial work Raging Burn, wrote that she was fortunate enough to go to know the director while working on the picture show last yr. She also thanked him for his guidance.
Chan was not able to complete post-product work on Raging Fire, which also stars Donnie Yen of Ip Homo fame, due to ill wellness. He had been in infirmary for the last few months.
Chan received a Best Director nomination at the Hong Kong Film Awards for his work on 2004'due south New Police Story that starred Jackie Chan. He also directed hits like Shaolin, which starred Andy Lau and Nicholas Tse.
